Welcome, to the Juvenile Law Section of the Utah State Bar.
The JLS is a newly-formed section within the Bar, catering to attorneys that practice in the unique forum of Juvenile Court. In only its first year of existence, membership is comprised of nearly 100 attorneys throughout the state. The Section hopes to become an open forum for ongoing legal education and policy debate, as well as funneling expertise and volunteers to community service statewide.
Juvenile law practice in Utah is a hybrid of criminal and civil law, with its own governing statutes and its own guidelines, i.e. the Utah Rules of Juvenile Procedure. Utah Juvenile Courts have jurisdiction over offenses committed by minors as well as cases that involve child abuse and neglect.
The Section membership includes: district attorneys, criminal defense, assistant Attorneys General, guardians ad litem, parental-defense and family-law and general practitioners.
Over the next few months, the Juvenile Law Section web site will be expanding to include information to assist anyone interested in the practice of Juvenile Law. If you have any suggestions regarding what this site should contain, please contact the section officers.
